Two nights spent in the French capital and it exceeded all expectations. I was falling in love with Paris and everything about it. The weather, the atmosphere, the food and the insanely incredible landmarks were just a dream. It’s now one of my favourite locations in Europe and for good reason. If you’re looking for an October location in Europe, Paris has to be a strong consideration.
Upon arrival at Charles De Gaulle airport it was straight to the metro in order to make our way to the hotel. The metro is by far the easiest way to get around Paris. Don’t bother buying bus tickets or booking taxi’s. Admittedly we jumped off at the wrong station to begin with but no worries as the walk to our hotel was in the scorching sunshine.
Falling in Love with Paris – The Eiffel Tower.
As we got closer to our accommodation I had my first glimpse of the iconic Eiffel Tower. It’s something you have to see for yourself as I can only describe it as unreal. It’s like someone has just painted this huge detailed structure into the Paris skyline. I’m a huge camera geek so I took many photos of the tower. Day and night, from the ground and from the top of both the Montparnasse Tower and the Notre-Dame de Paris.
Falling in Love with Paris – Les Jardins d’Eiffel.
It was such a good first night and it was so nice after a lot of evening walking to head back to our amazing room for the following two nights. Home for our stay in Paris was the beautiful Les Jardins d’Eiffel. It was a short walk from the Eiffel Tower and there was a metro station (Invalides) conveniently located nearby. The stay at Les Jardins d’Eiffel was the cherry on top of a great trip. The view out of the bedroom window was just perfect. Especially when the recently visited Eiffel Tower lit up into a glistening frenzy. I’d strongly recommend checking out this hotel if you’re heading to Paris. It encompasses everything that you will need for a great stay!
Falling in love with Paris – The Louvre and Tuileries Garden.
The following morning in Paris was beautiful. I got up early to head to the Louvre and beat the crowds. I was given the best sunrise on route and the light was just perfect when I arrived. It was early and a couple of other photographers were dotted around trying to do the same as me. I quickly took in the scenery, got a few pictures and then headed back to the gardens to start my route back. The Louvre was approximately a 25 minute walk from Les Jardins d’Eiffel. When you are crossing the River Seine at sunrise and wandering through some intensely autumnal parks it’s not a chore as you can imagine.
Falling in love with Paris – Notre-Dame de Paris.
Next up after visiting the Louvre we made our way to the Notre-Dame de Paris. What a building as you can see. The main queue was to get into the cathedral. We however wanted to get to the top of the cathedral and this operated on a no queue basis. Once we got our tickets the climb then began. A spiral staircase that went up and up and up and up! There are two view points high up the cathedral. The best one being right at the top where you can walk all the way around for a 360 degree view of Paris. It was nice to get this view in the daylight as we were up the Montparnasse Tower at night. Both perfect views!
Falling in love with Paris – the Arc de Triomphe.
The Arc de Triomphe was one place we visited on our first day but we missed the sunset lighting as we were too busy tucking into some food (always eating!) We made up for it on our next visit though. TImed perfectly, we got there with some great sunshine silhouetting the Arc from one side. This is a must visit place in Paris but be prepared for the hectic traffic!
We buzzed around the city one last time on the metro (day tickets were €10) and found a place to eat. The food in Paris was great however we did struggle more so than other places we’ve visited when looking for some healthy food spots. The best thing to do is grab some food from a supermarket and set up a picnic somewhere! We did this under the Eiffel Tower and it was so relaxing in the sunshine!
Paris definitely makes it on my return visit list as there is still a few more places I’d like to visit there but for now the planning commences for my next trip!
