I’m recently back from a few days of sunshine in Špindlerův Mlýn. What more could you ask for in an October trip to Europe? The colours were intensely autumnal, our hotel was one of the most beautiful ever and the surroundings were so picturesque! We did a lot of exploring and it’s safe to say the camera stayed firmly in my hands. My only experience of the Czech Republic up to this point was Prague. A beautiful city but this weekend opened my eyes to how much more this lovely country can offer!
Sunshine In Špindlerův Mlýn – Our Arrival.
Our initial arrival to Špindlerův Mlýn was in complete darkness. We started with two flights before then hiring a car to make a 2 hour drive away from the city of Prague. After being welcomed so warmly we got things unloaded and then tucked in for some much-needed sleep. We woke in the morning to absolute beauty! Stepping out on to our balcony and taking in the clear skies and autumnal colours filled us with excitement. We quickly grabbed the camera and drone before heading outside. The River Elbe runs through Špindlerův Mlýn and it’s quite the sight. It was so pleasant to stroll around the area first thing in the morning and just enjoy some fresh air before we really got going!
Sunshine In Špindlerův Mlýn – Hotel Savoy.
Before we did get going each day we were at Hotel Savoy, member of Asten Hotels. It’s one of the most beautiful hotels we have been fortunate enough to stay in. It was complimented so nicely by the coloured trees that framed it from every angle. Our room had a fantastic forward facing view from the balcony. We woke every morning, wandered outside and were gifted with misty mountain views, autumnal scenes and not a single cloud in the sky. Every single day was the same! The room was so comfortable and with Savoya restaurant and the luxurious Hennessy bar tempting us below we spent a lot of time here! I’ll be producing a separate post purely about staying at Hotel Savoy. Be sure to check that out for a more in-depth look!
Sunshine In Špindlerův Mlýn – Labska Dam.
Morning, afternoon and evening the Labska Dam definitely made for a good place to visit. It was built-in 1916 and sits at the entrance to Špindlerův Mlýn. We went a couple of times to shoot some photos and must have passed it in the dark on our initial arrival. It was an awesome place to put the drone up. The reservoir was super still which gave out the most insane reflections. Once we got some content we made our way across. On the opposite side of the dam there were some picturesque little houses that must be an absolute dream on a day like we experienced. You can actually get fishing permits in the reservoir and we saw one lone man on his kayak doing exactly that. Living the dream!
Sunshine In Špindlerův Mlýn – Up To The Mountains.
Another way we occupied our time in Špindlerův Mlýn was to head up into the mountains for a few hikes. We took the innogy line (closet one that was open) and made our way up. Once we got to the top we had to get a view from above. We got the drone in the air and we were just amazed at how beautiful the surroundings were. As you can see there were trees as far as you could see, covering the mountains but not without plenty of trails running right the way through. Unfortunately the cafe’s at the top were closed for construction but I can imagine during winter when this is covered in snow it would be a lively spot!
Sunshine In Špindlerův Mlýn – An Evening Out.
Špindlerův Mlýn on a whole was super relaxing. We got a lot done in our time there but it was nowhere near as hectic as a city break. Usually by the end of the day we are so tired but here we were raring to go and wanted to venture out. We started most of our evenings in Savoya restaurant. Briefly put, this place served the most delicious modern Czech cuisine. Their fresh ingredients were locally sourced and the food was just fantastic. From here it was on to the Hennesy bar. A secluded and luxurious bar that served us perfectly. Once we had left Hotel Savoy we just wandered in the hope that we would find somewhere. We came across Silver Rock Music Bar. If you are ever in the area, try this place out. It was so much fun and we had an extremely good time here!
On our final day and departure we were able to save enough time for a quick trip into Prague city centre. On our previous two visits the astronomical clock was under cover due to construction. We dashed in so that we could get a glimpse of this masterpiece (now on show) and it was so worth it! The Czech Republic on a whole is quickly becoming one of my favourite countries and I’d love to return to Špindlerův Mlýn once it’s covered in snow!
Thanks for reading, see you in the next one!
(Huge thankyou to Hotel Savoy, member of Asten Hotels for hosting us during our time in Špindlerův Mlýn. All opinions expressed are my own)
